The Framing Claw Hammer- redesigned.

Framing Claw Hammers are primarily used for heavy wood construction. Although their use may seem self-explanatory, their use still periodically results in injury. With a few tweaks in the hammer’s design, some main injuries can be prevented or lessened.

Issues: Frequent injuries with frequent hammer usage mostly revolve around nerve damage due to the vibration created upon impact. Additionally, common problems arise with the grip of the handle, and hammer head falling off.

Solutions: The redesigned hammer has a wood handle— the lightest material that causes the least amount of vibration.

To improve the grip, groves were added to the handle. To ensure a longer-lasting connection between the handle and the head of the hammer/ an easier replacement of the handle, an eye and wedge are accessible at the top of the hammerhead.

Lastly, a hole into the top of the hammer face and bell was added, as well as a slot directly behind them so that users could place a nail into this slot. Users would then be able to continue to hammer once their nails are in place. This would greatly reduce the chance of users hitting their fingers with the tool.
